Description: Hanover County held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic at Kings Dominion May 21. Volunteers relaxed and enjoyed an all-you-can-eat dinner, while the Hanover Concert Band performed and “Johnathan the Juggler” entertained the children. During a brief program, the youth recipient of the 2008 Governor’s Volunteerism and Community Service Awards, Atlee High student Kaitlin Gastrock above, presented the Board of Supervisors with a symbolic “check” for 7,547,416, representing the monetary value of the 382, 729 hours of service Hanoverians reported to have volunteered last year. Supervisors, from left Bucky Stanley, Ed Via, Debbie Coats and Bob Setliff. John Gordon not pictured was also present. |
